What's New Since I Moved to Ecuador? 🇪🇨

What’s new since I moved to Ecuador? EVERYTHING! 🤣

I kid, but there’s a grain of truth in every joke.

Moving to another country where you don’t speak the language fluently involves daily challenges ranging from where can I buy xyz to how does the oven work to how can I pay my landlord. Just getting established is equally exciting and draining.

Throughout my life, I’ve moved many times. Honolulu > Boston > Seattle > Houston > Guadalajara (briefly) > LA > San Francisco > Austin. Whew! 😅 City to city in the US isn’t that much different. You have mostly the same stores, same systems, same language. Moving is almost always a lot of work, but you can figure things out quickly when it’s within the same country.

Another challenging factor is whether you relocate by yourself or with someone. All of my previous moves have either been with a partner or to a place where I had family and friends. There was a built-in support system to lean on. Uprooting to another country on your own is a masterclass in self reliance! 🙌🏻 Years of solo travel gave me the confidence that I can find my way through almost any situation and it’s ok to ask for help.

All of that said - I’m loving it! 🤩 Ecuador is a vibrant, colorful country. The people here are generous & kind. I enjoy the river and mountain ⛰️ energy of Cuenca. The city is extremely walkable.🚶🏻‍♀️Every day I discover something new & interesting. Costs are low. The food is fresh 🥕🫑and delicious. The pace is slower and I feel more ease on a daily basis.🪷

Don’t let initial challenges stop you from making whatever big change you’ve been dreaming of.

Accept your growing pains, give yourself grace 💝 & eventually you’ll adapt and even thrive in your new circumstances.

In an act of radical self kindness, I gave myself a few weeks off just to realign and ground in my new environment. Now, I’m excited to be back to work! I’ve scheduled a few online workshops (via Zoom) and would love for you to join me:
